Former Malvinas governor arrested over crimes against humanity
Over the past months, Argentina has been sending a message to the international community: the 1982 Malvinas War was commanded by the 1976-1983 military leadership in a desperate attempt to divert attention from a huge economic crisis and pressure over crimes against humanity, staining diplomatic efforts by democratic governments to claim sovereignty over the British-occupied Islands. Now, former governor of the South Atlantic territories Mario Benjamin Menendez has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the so called “Operation Independence” that led to the forced disappearance of left-wing political activists.
